Brett Favre wants a salary raise for return

With so many people waiting for his decision, Brett Favre seems to enjoy the attentions paid to him and the discussions about him. We are not sure how longer he will go on with this game, but the real thing he wants is very likely to be more money.

While the Minnesota Vikings said that they had enough patience to wait for Favre’s decision, their patience was actually used for the negotiation on contract modifying. Leading the Vikings to the playoffs last season, Favre proved what he could still do at age 40 and wanted the team to reconsider the original contract terms they signed during the 2009 offseason. However, as we know, heavy investment on an over-aged quarterback is extremely risky and both the quarterback and the team needs long enough time to reach something that is for both sides’ most possible benefits.

What’s odd here is that the Vikings still have two other quarterbacks available for a starting role even if the No. 4 Brett Favre jersey is not to be with the team for the 2010 season, but they still focus on Favre only. If the team really thinks Favre the best starting quarterback they could have, why are they hesitating to make more generous offer? Well, that’s the team’s logic to give less than they could afford unless they lose their advantages.

Steelers retained veteran QB Batch on a two-year contract

Thirteen-year veteran quarterback Charlie Batch is very likely to retire as Pittsburgh Steelers player as he just signed a new contract with team to remain in the Steelers jersey for another two year, and at age 35, he could end his NFL career when the contract expires.

Batch has been under contract with the Steelers for eight seasons, although he sat out 2004 and 2008 with injuries. He has thrown only two passes since 2007, and 135 overall during his time with Pittsburgh. He used to be a starter for the Detroit Lions during 1998 to 2001, but he has been only on the second stringer since joining the Steelers. After signing the new contract, he is expected to compete for the backup job with Dennis Dixon, who became the NO. 2 quarterback after Batch broke his left wrist on No. 22 while playing against the Kansas City Chiefs and started one game when starter Ben Roethlisberger was hurt last season. Now with the new chance to be the No. 2 quarterback, Batch should try his best to prove his worth before it’s too late.

Raiders QB Gradkowski may not play Sunday against Broncos

As the Oakland Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski tore medial collateral ligament in both knees during last Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins, a lot began to guess who would start for the Raiders this week against the Denver Broncos.

According to Raiders Coach Tom Cable, former starter JaMarcus Russell and third-stringer Charlie Frye have equal chance to get the starting job if Gradkowski is unable to wear back his Raiders jersey to start Sunday’s game. The coach said he will have a decision by Wednesday.

Gradkowski completed 10 of 18 pass attempts for 153 yards in the first half against the Redskins, leading the Raiders to 10 points. And the Raiders only managed three points and 39 yards in the second half with Russell replacing Gradkowski on the quarterback. So if it is any way possible, the Raiders would still like to start Gradkowski, who won two of his three starts, engineering comeback victories against Cincinnati and Pittsburgh before the injury.

Titans QB Young said he did not want to lose teammate for the starting job

As a lot of fans have been clamoring that the Tennessee Titans should quarterback Vince Young a chance to play at starter, Yong, the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year, said that he wants to play but does not want to get the chance at the expense of his teammates,who wear the same titans jersey with him.

After being injured in the 2008 opener, Young lost his starting job to Kerry Collins has not managed to lead the Titans to even one win this season. However, Coach Jeff Fisher insisted Monday that he is sticking with Collins and will not switch to Young in near future.

However, Young said Wednesday that his current job is to be the scout team quarterback, prep the defense and pay attention mentally. He said that he wants to play, but if that means he would losing his teammates, he would rather stay with the scout team, because he respects his teammates and the team needs to put the pieces together.
