Titans are not yet ready to extend QB Young’s contract

As the 2010 season will be likely an uncapped season, a lot of NFL teams are taking different approaches to retain player or cut salary cost. What the Tennessee Titans are taking is a wait-and-see approach, at least toward the contract of starting quarterback Vince Young.

Young is due a $4.25 million option bonus in March and a $7.5 million base salary with a $14.2 million salary-cap figure for 2010, if there was a cap governing this fiscal year. But by so far there have not been any talks between Young and the Titans about restructure or extension of Young’s current contract.

According to latest reports, the Titans seem like to wait and make sure that Young can do as good job in 2010 season as he did in 2009 season before they can promise to offer any long-term financial commitment to the former University of Texas star. So what is likely to happen is that Young has to perform his best for 2010 season in Titans jersey before gaining a new hefty contract from the team.

Titans QB Young said he did not want to lose teammate for the starting job

As a lot of fans have been clamoring that the Tennessee Titans should quarterback Vince Young a chance to play at starter, Yong, the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year, said that he wants to play but does not want to get the chance at the expense of his teammates,who wear the same titans jersey with him.

After being injured in the 2008 opener, Young lost his starting job to Kerry Collins has not managed to lead the Titans to even one win this season. However, Coach Jeff Fisher insisted Monday that he is sticking with Collins and will not switch to Young in near future.

However, Young said Wednesday that his current job is to be the scout team quarterback, prep the defense and pay attention mentally. He said that he wants to play, but if that means he would losing his teammates, he would rather stay with the scout team, because he respects his teammates and the team needs to put the pieces together.
