Vikings CB Winfield not available to play against Packers

Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield of the Minnesota Vikings still needs some more time to take care of his injured right foot and will not be available to play with his team at Green Bay on Sunday.

According to Coach Brad Childress, Winfield has been making progress throughout the week, but he is just not healthy enough to get on the field after missing last week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers already. It is very likely that Winfield will be in his place again after the bye week following this Sunday’s game.

Karl Paymah, Asher Allen and Benny Sapp played in Winfield’s place last Sunday and will do the same job this weekend. After holding Ben Roethlisberger to 175 yards passing and Hines Ward to one catch for 3 yards, it does not seem harder for them to play against Packers Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings and Donald Drivers in Green Bay.

As Brett Favre’s return to Lambeau Field has been highly anticipated, the star quarterback now wearing Vikings jersey is not completely sure that he will be able to play against his old team because he had to look after his injured hip. He was listed as probable along with linebackers Ben Leber and E. J. Henderson and fullback Naufahu Tahi.

Packers WR Jennings was injured in preseason game against Cardinals

The Green Bay Packers was excited to see a potential quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, but they were also sorry to see wide receiver Greg Jennings injured as early as in the first quarter.

The injury came on a game-opening touchdown drive for the Packers. Jennings was sandwiched by the Cardinals’ Bryant McFadden and Aaron Francisco after he caught a 25-yard pass from Rodgers. It was then he was blown to the head and knocked down to the turf. He lay there for several minutes before he was able to walk off on his own.

In the game against the Arizona Cardinals, the Packers won by 44-37. Rodgers threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns to open a 28-point halftime lead.

Packers DT Raji spent time not on field, but at home

According to The Associated Press, Defensive lineman B.J. Raji’s mother told reporters that Raji has been busy with fixing up his new townhouse and cooking at his Green Bay home. Raji did so not just for relaxation, of course, but for a contract holdout.

As the Green Bay Packers’ top draft pick this year, Raji did not appear on field during the opening week of training camp. He has been waiting for the Packers to offer him a contract.

If he insists on doing so until he gets contract signed with the Packers, very likely he will miss the chance of participating in the Packers’ first significant preseason action-their first scrimmage before a large crowd at Lambeau Field on Saturday.
