According to reports by the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuel will take off his NFL jersey once and for all this week, announcing his expected retirement before the deadline for free agency.
Samuel suffered a neck injury in an October loss to the Carolina Panthers and speculation has spread since then that he will retire after 10 years with the Redskins. According the reports, Samuel will announce his decision on a press conference this week, right before the Friday deadline for free agency.
Actually Samuel made the decision after consulting with a team of doctors since sustaining the neck injury. And all the doctors advised him not to continue playing football because that could cause paralysis. With Samuel’s retirement, the Redskins and first-year general manager Bruce Allen and first-year coach Mike Shanahan will have much more work to do to improve the team’s offensive line.

Bills RT Butler retired after four NFL seasons
At the age 26 and just finishing four NFL seasons, the Buffalo Bills right tackle Brad Butler decided to say goodbye to the football career. As a major in government studies at Virginia, the young man thinks his life should be spent in other area.
“My passion for education, country and community is something that I am ready to devote my full attention to,” he said in a statement released by the team on Thursday. “I believe the best way to pursue these spheres of interest is to step away from the game of football at this point in my life.”
Butler’s NFL career began in 2006 when he was drafted by the Bills in the fifth round. Wearing the No. 60 Bills jersey, Butler started all but two of the 33 games he played for the team, with only two games being played in 2009 as he sustained a serious knee injury in Week 2 while playing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason has decided to retire after 12 NFL seasons
It was really a surprise when I got to know that Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason has decided to retire after 12 NFL seasons.
“On Friday July 10, I received a call from my client Derrick Mason,” agent C. Lamont Smith told the Baltimore Sun, “and he advised me that after careful and deep thought he had made a decision to retire from professional football.” He will wear no more tampa bay buccaneers jersey.
Mason told Smith that he did not feel up to the enormous demands that professional football requires and the decision has already been delayed out of respect for his friend and former teammate Steve McNair, who was murdered by his girlfriend earlier this month.
As an underrated fantasy wide receiver, Mason posted 1,000-plus yards in seven of his final eight seasons between Tennessee and Baltimore. He was also a tremendous asset in PPR leagues, recording 80 or more catches five times since 2003.
