Patriots traded OL Hochstein to Broncos for a 2010 draft pick

The New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos made an announcement on Tuesday that offensive lineman Russ Hochstein was traded to Broncos so that the Patriots could get a 2010 seventh-round draft pick.

Hochstein was considered to be a versatile player by Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, who formerly worked as Patriots’ offensive coordinator. Indeed, after being picked in 2001 fifth-round draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hochstein began with the Patriots on the practice squad in 2002 and played in 91 games in the past seven seasons. He was also used sometimes as tight end and blocking back as well as center and guard.

Hochstein was also the second Patriots McDaniels swung a trade for in a week. The previously acquired player was defensive end Le Kevin Smith. McDaniels said the players’ familiarity with the schemes he brought with him factored in on the trades.
